So the official specs are out for the challenger, and the weight is 4,140 lbs!!! My 06 charger r/t weighs 4,031 lbs.. how the hell did they manage to shorten the LX platform and build a smaller car that weighs more?

That weight makes it a definite no for me. What a shame, looks pretty good though.
Am I the only one that really doesn't give two shits about the weight? I think that some of you just have to come to the realization that this car is based off a more upmarket/"luxury"(used very loosely) vehicle built for comfort and practicality. There was no existing sports coupe or chasis that would have made this car economically viable otherwise. Go and buy an elise or an exige if you want a light weight sports coupe(either of which costs more, by the way), not something whose drivetrain alone weighs more than those cars.
Personally, I will buy one for sheer looks alone and secondly performance once the 392 with a 6 speed hits in a couple years. That car will humble 99% of the cars out there when I want it to and look awesome doing it.
They can't even have one CAR steering wheel, and one Mini-Van/Truck steering wheel?
They can really only afford to produce ONE type of steering wheel at a time?
Really?
Does the Ford Focus, Ford F-150 and Mustang have the same wheel?
Ohhh, that must be why Ford is in bad financial shape, and Chrylser is doing great....
OR, its the reason Chrysler's interiors continue to be a joke.
Sorry to bring this up again, but your argument is absolutely terrible. You argue that an economy car, truck, and sports car have different steering wheels for one manufacturer and alude to the fact that dodge uses the same wheel for all three of those types of vehicles.
economy car
truck
sports car
Am I missing something? Thanks allpar and dodge for the pictures.

Sorry, don't like the fatty's. Reasonable weight would be 3800lbs or less although anything above 3700lbs would be too much if you ask me. If you're going for looks alone I guess that's cool, plus it should be a pretty rare car too. As far as performance goes, it's gonna be getting beat by cheaper Csrt-4s, MS3s, EVOs, STIs, Camaros (eventually), 135is, Mustangs, GTOs, etc.. ^^All those cars are lighter and have at least 4 seats.
The SRT8 cars (300C & Charger) weigh in at 4160lbs and can run the 1/4 mile in in the low 13's, with some stock cars running high 12's with a good driver, good track and cool weather. I'm sure the Challenger will do the same. The SRT8 cars also surprise everybody with how well they handle for as big as they are. With a 4" shorter wheelbase, the Challenger should handle just a tad better than their SRT8 brothers.
Would it be nice to only weigh in at 3800lbs? Heck yes it would be, but it doesn't. However I think a lot of people are mistaken if they don't believe this car will be able to perform. It should only get better once the manual transmission gets put in the car in a year or so.

i think you havent come to the realization that this performance oriented 2 door smaller then LX car should not weigh more than my boat-like 4 door family sedan charger r/t

Here I thought the whole point of my post was that I came to the realization that the car is heavy and can't seem to figure out why no one else can? You're right I guess, we should have just settled for a four door car that weighed a lot and was a disgrace to the name that it carries. Oh that's right, your signature shows that you bought one of those... oops
