Yea screw using the same number of 4.0 to accommodate Wrangler enthusiasts and have a decent amount of power… These things are slow.
Oddly enough, most people who buy Wranglers aren't interested in drag racing them.
Oh ok, so everyone is buying Nitro RTs to drag race them??
Yes thats why the Hemi sells, everyone with a Ram Truck, LX,C/RTdrag races their cars...
This 3.8 Wrangler is a joke. (Ok, not as bad as deleting reg-cab Dakotas, and making their club cab worthless). The Dakota has been one of the biggest flops in the last 20 years… The Wrangler will still sell, but not as well as it could have. Chrysler must have some idiots working for them.
I actually think the 3.8 is fine in the new Wrangler. The 4.0 in the Wrangler was NEVER fast, it WAS torquey, but the new Wrangler with the 3.8 and the lower gearing is plenty. I wouldn't want much more power in a Wrangler IMHO My SRT-4 and other toys are for going fast, my Wrangler is for going anywhere. I've wheeled with a few so far, and they are VERY capable. Anyway being underpowered has always been a calling card for the CJ/YJ/TJ/and now JK models. All the way back to the Go Devil 4 and Hurricane 4. Its a JEEP, its not meant to be fast. Unfortunately, 90% of the owners will never realize how capable the new Wrangler is.
The other day I passed a new Rubicon Unlimited rollin on 24" Dubs, now THAT is disgusting.

hah - i'll top that with seeing a JK Rubicon, black, hard top, lifted, offroad wheels.. and... the bad part: a ricer wing. i was like WTF were you smoking when you decided to bolt that onto a jeep.\
or - seeing one "mexican jumping beaned-out" -- hydraulics & the traditional 13" whitewalls.
Generally speaking, horsepower is usually a selling point to consumers. Consequently, I too wouldn't mind seeing a V8 option in the wrangler i.e. I'd prefer to own a V8 four door wrangler than a V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee...but thats just me.

A big engine will be too heavy and really screw with side hill and downhill driving. I don't want a racer, just a little more engine to use on and off road. The 4.0L V6 would be just fine, really.
Although the 3.8L is adequate for the task, I've never been a fan of using an engine that's just good enough. Something that isn't wheezing as much would be nice.
