Received phone call tonight, telling me order bank opening delayed until October... and worse news if source is correct:
***** CALIBER SRT4 PRODUCTION DELAYED UNTIL FIRST WEEK OF NOVEMBER *****...
Damn, I wanna see that car on the streets already
With all the delays...I'd expect the car to literally fly... NO WAIT...I GOT IT. Dodge is having a problem installing the flux capacitor to the control module....

Didn't you hear that that is the first Mopar Stage 1 upgrade? gosh
i wonder if this has anything to do with the announcement that nardelli said about cutting products?
I keep hearing (like from PVOMan here) that the plan is to expand SRT, not cut it back. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with what Nardelli said about making improvements and upgrades to existing products. I wonder if they're rushing a revised Caliber interior or something.

Caliber SRT4... the first car that is "vaporware".
Chrissakes... the delays are getting ridiculous. Even the magazines are taking note that the car keeps getting pushed back further and further...
Most people would not buy a FWD performance car in the dead of winter. So, I wouldn't be surprised if the launch is a letdown, and then in spring they fly off the lots...

I'll speculate here about the delay. You've got an engineering team that has a idea of what they can do having to deal with a new management team that isn't sure of what they can do, but have an idea of what they should do. It's a recipe for long frustrating meetings.
I think its most likely a supplier issue. I cant see Dodge taking note of anything anyone says about its exterior, interior, power, weight, drivetrain and going back to the drawing board and trying to fix something. Like someone else stated, it would be too late to even fix a 2009 let alone something that starts production in a month.

but now that the 2008 caliber srt-4 is now a essentially a half year run, they would have nothing to gain by making it if there was a major design change coming to the caliber in 2009 (or no caliber at all?). why run a car for 6 months. that doesn't make $$ sense.
as salespeople we see what needs to be done.
chrysler - flagship luxury vehicles. compete with caddy and lexus
dodge - middle america, some luxury appointments, but focused on bang for buck and horsepower, sports car lineups.
jeep - back to basics - wrangler, wrangler 4 door, grand cherokee, RESCUE, and a jeep truck
this opens up room for AMC/Plymouth value line vehicles that are NOT just copies of dodge/chrysler cars.
