Default Calling all intelligent SRT-4 owners

"From what I've read, synthetic can coat too well, not allowing piston rings to seat properly in new engines. Yes, some cars like the Corvette come with synth from the factory. My assumption is that they spend more time with each engine breaking it in. Perhaps this is done to our VQ35's, but I didn't want to chance it since I plan to go FI in the future.

Note: I've read one article that claimed the first 20mi on a new engine were all that really mattered. If it wasn't run appropriately within that timespan, you'd lost your chance. ohmy.gif I hope that isn't necessarily true!"... Original Article

I found the link that this guy read about the engine break in being significant within the first 20 miles. I've been interested in a 350 Z for a year now so I've been reading up. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I just don't know what to think. The website is kind of fishy to me.

Any comments about using synthetic from day one and this break in method?

All motor oils do pretty much the same thing. They clean, protect, lubricate and cool the engine. The only difference between regular and synthetic is the additives that are used in it. Same thing with people that think they can go longer periods between oil changes because they use synthetic, thats very wrong, all oil breaks down in the same period as others. So yes, its fine if you use synthetic on a new enigine. Good luck!

Yes! I'm gonna start using canola oil. It's a lot cheaper than Mobil1.

Yes, I know that. I was, in Dale's sarcastic style, pointing out that you are wrong. You are also wrong about all motor oils breaking down in the same period. Click here for some interesting reading.

Seen it, read it. We aswell have tested our oil like that from customers cars. Mobil 1 is way better then any ordinary oil, but it is still reccomended to replace every 3,000 miles. Not everyone is going to change there oil filter every 5,000 or so like they did. Everytime they would replace the filter and take samples they would need to add fresh oil to top it off. So if they didnt test it out by going the complete 25,000 miles or w/e it is, I wouldnt be so sure. Im not trying to start any flame wars just giving my opinion.

the 3k oil change interval, is in place ,because of the turbocharger.............it cooks the oil MUCH sooner than a nat. aspirated engine............synthetic or not........but why risk it, i run Amsoil._________5TOEZ_________
