the V6 camaro will definitely out perform the Challenger SE no questions asked, this thread addresses the V8 Camaro
will give GM kudos for capitalizing where Ford and Chrysler didnt see an opportunity, base cars dont have to be slow, boring and dull. SO their answer was a 306hp Direct Injected V6 which if you compare against their competitors it outpowers the Mustang V6 by 96hp, Mustang GT by 6hp, the Challenger SE by 56hp and comes short 69hp to the Challenger R/T. Thats not even taking handling and feature content for the money you spend
Well the Camaro will outperform the Challenger too. People seem to keep comparing the srt-8 with the SS when really it should be compared to the r/t. The r/t has an msrp of nearly 30k and the ss will probably start out at around 32k.

Unless they release a z28 I'd disagree. Does that mean we're only to compare the Mustang GT to the 3.6L Camaro?
If these things are reasonably priced, they should sell really well. I think the challenger will sell well too, once the more reasonably priced R/T comes out. The SRT-8 is a ripoff. It's only got a few more horses and some suspension stuff for what, 10k more?
Car has a modern look with subtle retro cues whereas the Challenger looks like a 40 year old car. I mean it looks nice but it went over the cliff in the retro department and decided to get cheap on the car and yet still slap a $40,000+ sticker on it for the Challenger.
In general it is sad that the industry has gotten to this point. We have compacts over 3000 lbs and midsized cars pushing 4000. Safety regulations are now going to conflict with fuel economy regulations, cars will average over 3500 lbs but need to get an average of 35 mpg. Somethings gotta give.
The Chevrolet (and Holden) engineers have spent a lot of time and effort making it right: compare it to the rushed Challenger. ~4200 lbs for 425 hp and a parts bin interior. For nearly $40000, but hit the streets almost a year before the Camaro will. So 3813 lbs and 422 hp at nearly $30 000 with a unique interior for an extra few months of 'getting it right' isn't so bad of a trade off.
Plus even though the (temporarily) canned the Z/28 they were testing one out in Arizona with a blower putting down 550hp. I can dig up the article. My guess they're keeping it under wraps at a 2011 or 2012 release (like the GT-500 was late to the party in Mustang camp).

Read above...the car is bland and a rush job of with a parts bin interior.

The Challenger is definitely a sharp looking car but when it comes down to it, the SRT-8 won't stand a chance against a bone stock Camaro SS, let alone a lightly modified one with typical parts. Intake, exhaust, and a cam, shit... you'll need a telescope to see the Challenger behind you.
I totally disagree.. I don't like the new Camaro at all! and I think the Challenger is 100x better looking then the Camaro. I Really really want to like the CAmaro but I can't. The shape isn't all that great, the front grill isn't anything special and the rear to me looks kinda cheap. Where I think the challenger is pretty badass. I think dodge did a much better job w/ the looks of modernizing the Challenger then GM did the camaro.

Just my opinion........ I wouldn't buy one.
Looks are subjective. I was referring to every other aspect of the Camaro. The mags all have first drive articles up that test the production V6 Camaro and they're already saying based on that model that it's way ahead of the Challenger and Mustang in every aspect of driving.

People have a hard time looking past brand names or asthetics

Absolutely. Based on the G8 GXP numbers, the SS should easily break into the 12s.
It will be interesting to see where pricing will be for the SS considering the GXP will start at $38k.
