Question What is that spring sound when i let off the throttle??

What is that weird spring/fluttering sound i get when ever i let off the throttle?? Is this normal? I just got the car a few weeks ago and i believe it is all stock. it happens when ever the boost pressure drops a decent amount.

I am not sure what you mean by a spring sound, but the fluttering is just your turbo. It is normal, and it is even louder if you take off your stock airbox lid or get an aftermarket air intake.

Flutter should not be considered "normal". It's charged air going back into the turbo and trying to make it spin backward, very bad if it happens repeatedly. That's why we have a BOV in the 1st place in fact.

Mine does it a lot with my Mopar BOV and I need to find a fix.

I wonder if you're hearing the surge valve. Any mods on the car?

It happens on every stock SRT4, even if you can't hear it. Hence, it is normal. The turbo will still last a long ass time with it.

1. We don't know what you are hearing
2. Im sure that it is your surge valve, which does what a BOV would do to release extra pressure from the turbo.

Sounds like option 2 is what you are hearing; it is normal. If it really bothers you, you should get it on film and then have us take a look at it.

BTW, Please read the stickies on this section; valuable information pertaining to the Srt-4.

a BOV would triple the loudness of the sound., usually if your driving it very easy, light then everytime you shift or let off the gas you will hear it, sounds kinda like a cat pur. a bov will make it sound like a PPPPPSSSSSSSHHHHHHhhhhhhhttt!!!!!!! if you let off while in it hard, and the cat pur will turn into a liger (look em up 1000+lb cat) pur.

Could he possibly be talking about a rice plate? I know he said it is stock, but he also said he just got the car.

Mine had only a rice plate on it when i first got it. Now with my Injen CAI, its an obvious "flutter." It is distinct and different from the rice. I think the sound is the air trying to come back out the intake. Either way, I would be concerned that you are hearing it with a stock intake. Take some vids and youtube that bitch. I'm interested to hear and compare. I was pissed at first but think its better than the rice. I want to kill myself when it goes off at 1 psi.

get a block off plate and an HKS SSQ...then when you let off the throttle it will whistle.

"flutter" is normal. Especially stock. I haven't heard a stock SRT actually surge, it has it's own "surge" plate for that. When you get bigger you'll worry, but stock shouldn't be a surge problem. It's probably a cold air that he doesn't realize is stock or something small. But I agree, if you are worried enough, get a short video and we'll check it out on youtube. There's always the doctor's that say it's a cough and it's really pneumonia.

The rice plate is the Mopar Blow Off Valve. Look by your turbo heat shield. Its a shiny blue piece with a hole in it. If it wasn't a chore to take it off, I would. But I will just do it when I get my hard pipes and do away with it. It is better than nothing I suppose. Just annoying.
