It's easy. Just pull the intake pipe off and stick your finger on the center of the turbine wheel and move it side to side. There will be some play so don't be alarmed if you have some but if you have alot of play that can be a sign of bad things to come. Mitsubishi turbos are pretty robust compared to Garretts so unless you use an aftermarket BOV or have the above mentioned wastegate problem our cars aren't old enough to have to worry about premature turbo failure.

why is it that it seems that like 50% of us do seem to have oil leaking OUT from inside the turbo inlet??

i know some people think it's blow by coming from the driver side pcv vent and thru the intake, but many guys run an aftermarket intake and only have a little K & N filter on their driver side valve cover, and still get oil buildup aroud the inside of the intake pipe where it attaches to the turbo inlet.

That's scary, IMO... and speaking of Garret turbos my other car has a Garret turbo, and I know on that turbo, if you get oil buildup like that that means your seal or bearing is blown.... I keep cleaning it and I keep getting more, scary.

But yeah, compressor surge = torture on your turbos bearings, and in really severe cases can actually start breaking blades on the compressor.

I'm going to go on a limb here and say Orange Blast is definitely the fastest. Compare it to all others and you'll know.

Seriously though, I had my PCM reflashed (dealer) and I have not driven it yet. I hope it is stronger. I can't wait!!

alright enough with the ***** is fastest It was just a joke guys making a pun at my own effort to debunk misinfo by ending it with some of my own.

But seriously, can anyone contribute some other myths or misinfo? I KNOW there is a TON of it out there.

If you have any, post the myth and then the truth of whatever the myth is. I can add that to the original post with credit to who posted.

Maybe we could get it stickied... I dont think stickies are a lost cause, it was the first thing I read when I joined. And anyways, it makes it easier every time a noob says some bad info, just link to this thread instead of typing out all the reasons why they are wrong

Am I reading this right?? why would an aftermarket BOV cause premature turbo failure, is'nt that the sole reason for a BOV in the first place??

Maybe he mistyped or we are interpreting wrong, I know that caught my eye too.

Well, there is one way... if you get an aftermarket BOV and set it way too tight (which it seems some people do, you know it when it makes a sound more like a turkey gobble or laughing hyena than just a nice psssshhhhh) it would also cause the compressor to surge slightly so would accelerate wear on the turbo.

what about the catch-can comment? saying the car doesn't need one (instead, they'd rather have you dripping oil from your cold side pipe onto your driveway).

nah that's not much of a myth or misinfo, because just about everyone on here will tell any n00b that a catch can should not even be considered optional.

Seems the only post I ever saw saying a catch can wasn't necessary was from the SRT techs when they had that thread going like a month ago, answering questions.

I know when I, like every noob before me, came in and said "hey I just bought an SRT what mods should I do!??11!1" that a catch can was on almost every list of recommendations.

actually just to even go further on the s1 s2 thing a s1 car that dynoed 285whp on the same dyno that i dynoed 275whp on lost to me also by multiple cars and they even switched drivers after they lost the first 2 times and the 4th run i missed a gear and still won...dyno's are good for getting a base run and to see if one part does something to your car that it didnt do before as in add HP or TQ and also good to tune with and thats about it it helps you also determine what you MIGHT be close to running at a track BUT dosent mean you will its the overall curve not just the peak HP that matters

When a post is good enough to get stickied, it will. There is no need to ask for it.
