I have a stock 05 Flame Red SRT4 and a 13.5 at Houstion during a NHRA Test and Tune event. The slowest I ran all day was a 13.8. The dyno numbers were 235hp and 275trq at the wheels on a Dyno Jet dyno in Killen, Texas.
Yea even on the stock tires. I still have them on there but will be replacing them soon I hope. I just dropped the pressure down to 25 and went at it. You have to remember though that the track was prepped for a Test and Tune event for some of the NHRA cars prior to the start of the season last year. I m currently deployed to Iraq but I can't wait to get back and bang on it again for a while. I still have all the time slips in the car unless the wife cleaned the car out while I have been gone. These cars are very fast for what they are. Anyone that owns one should be happy with it I know I am.
Untrue. The problem does seem to have happened to ALL years of SRT-4's. They do seem more common on the '05's, maybe because there are more '05's out there. But all years have been affected to some degree.
Transmission problems are caused by driver abuse, inexperienced driving, WOT shifting, etc.
True and false. There are a LOT of people who had problems with their transmission the day they drove their SRT off the lot. I am one of these. I had been blocked out of 3rd gear and gotten the 3rd gear crunch before I had even finished with my break-in miles. Before I ever did a quick shift or WOT shift (which I've only tried a couple times), or had ever revved the car to redline. There are a lot of cases just like this... people who had 3rd gear issues in very low amount of miles, who are experienced manual transmission drivers, and who are older and more mature and have not abused the crap out of their SRT. This is an issue that really has been shown to be more an effect of NVG's use of brass for the shift forks, which is just way too soft a metal for that purpose on this kind of car.
On the flipside of that, some problems, like broken shift selectors, definately are caused by shifting hard and WOT shifting. Broken input shafts are usually a cause of too much power + upgraded clutch + hard shifting.
Well, that's all I can think of right this moment. I would hope this thread would gain some momentum and some of our resident TRUE experts would pitch in with more myths and maybe just maybe this thread or one like it could be made sticky so all the new owners could AVOID being poisoned by misinfo from some wannabe know it alls.
thank you for your time
EDIT: put in a much more thorough description of what PTB actually is and does.
OK guys.. Ive owned Honda's all my life and im considering getting a SRT-4... What kind of tranny problems "WILL" I experence and will they be covered under warrenty?
You're not guaranteed to experience any problems. It's still a relative minority of owners who have had this problem. Test drive the car first and do a lot of 4th to 3rd downshifts, especially while turning.
If it always goes in smooth, then you should have no problem with it.
And as far as Honda's go, the 3rd gear synchro on my wife's '07 Civic Si is just about as bad as my SRT's was, and she does not beat on the car at all. I was over on the RSX forums, and apparely a lot of Type S's had problems with 3rd gear.
So the SRT is no worse off than a Honda in that respect :P

my last car was an 03 rsx type s and my brother has a 07 civic si 4dr. both had the "3rd gear wall" we both changed out the tranny fluid for royal purple syncromax and it was gone. i figured since the tranny in the srt is a little notchy that it would clear it up and it did. i would try that in your si and the srt and see how it goes
nice that someone is chiming in on the whole dyno thing. drives me nuts how you see all these people complaining about dyno numbers without realizing that a dyno is a tuning tool, and not an absolute measurement. a dyno run has to be taken with a grain of salt. good post.
