Default Running Low Boost??

Hey guys I've been looking to trade my Civic Si for an SRT-4 for a little bit now. I think I found one I really like. Its black with 21k miles and its wicked clean. The only problem i found was that it is boosting 9 PSI. I'm almost positive from reading around here that stock boost should be around 14.5 right? Car is bone stock except for the Mopar blow off plate. Does do you think could be wrong??

Could be as simple as a boost leak or something much much worse.

Temperature has an effect on boost as well. If it's really cold outside, the pcm will lower the boost to offset the denser air.

^^ True and if u tried to boost right at the start of the test drive it wont boost any higher than like 7-9 lbs. The computer controls exactly whats going on so as not to hurt the motor at start up.

Second should have full boost. If you are looking at a dealer, they may have put reg unleaded in, which will pull boost. Thats what the dealer I bought mine from did...

Check to ensure the boost gauge is sitting at 0 when the car is shut off. It is fairly common to have the stock boot gauge break. From what I remember when mine broke, it read 11in-hg when shut off and only boosted to 7-8psi.

Also, as MRSRT said, the PCM will not allow full boost until the car is warmed up. To be safe, make sure the temp gauge is at 200°F.

At low temperatures, the lowest boost the PCM will give is roughly 11psi. The manual says it will vary between 11 and 15 psi in stock form depending on a variety of parameters. The lowest my car ever saw in winter was 11psi on stock bost control.

Hey guys thanks for all the input. The dealer let me actually take it home for the day so I got a few things to report back on.
1) I let the engine warm up and did pulls in second and third and never made it past 9 PSI.
2) Boost gauge is not sitting at 0 when idling/is at 0 when car is shut off
3) Dealer said boost ranges from 9 to 14.5? I said ok but I never make it past 9 and they did not really have a better answer.
4) Went and put 93 Octane gas in it before the pulls

Well if the boost gauge sits at zero when its off it should be ok. When its idling it should be around 18-21 vac or so. So my guess is you have a vacuum leak. I think you said that it had the mopar BOV plate. Check there, and i believe there is a how to on how to check for vac leaks.

Another thing.... bring it to a trusted mechanic that u know and let him or her check it out for you and give u the low down on it.

It probably won't make a difference but you could try reseting the computer.

FYI The boost gauge should sit at 0 when car is off and approx 22"hg while at idle.

Overall, It's probably a bad boost leak. You need to do a leak check. I bet the mopar blow off plate is leaking...
