i no this is a old thread but did u ever find the problem i just got 110 miles to full tank.
Nope, I just deal with the problem.
I think my gas gauge needle is messed up. I let it run all the way down to the empty line with the gas light on and the most I can get in the tank is 8.5 gallons.
I've come to the conclusion that my needle is jacked up.

that's what it seems like. you should get that fixed though
I always thought these cars had 10gal tanks? I guess i was wrong lol.
But ive been averaging between 24-27 on every tank. But i always fill up before my light comes on...usually putting in 8-9 gallons. I hate running any of my vehicles till the light comes on.

where are you getting your gas from? I know when I use BP 93 gas i get my best mileage which is usually about 200 miles to the tank. Thats with a sprint here and there.

I always had the same problem in my car. Could never fill it up with more than 8 gallons, no matter how empty it was. But I was getting 90-115 miles to a tank, so you are doing a lot better than I was. Never had time to figure out what was wrong, and when I was on the highway I would get 25-28mpg which seemed normal so I just thought the car dumped fuel in the city.

the needle might not be the problem, i had that problem for a while after running a returnline, figured out i had the pump rotated out of where its supposed to be, if you have taken ur pump out, this very well may be the problem.
I stopped caring about mileage a long time ago. 24mpg if I drive like grandma going to church on sunday all the time. 22mpg if I rape the car as much as I want. I got the shadow for every day driving and I can regularly get 30mpg out of it still. I just say "fuck it" and drive the neon when I feel like helping some arab buy another chrome plated Audi.
I have interesting problems with my tank too. I thought I was about to run out of gas with the needle looking like it is touching the stop, filled it up but only could squeeze 9.5 gallons in the tank I am gonna carry a gas can when it comes time to upgrade the fuel pump and run the bitch as far as it goes. Anybody elses car hiding gas?
if your only getting 8.5 gallons on a fill up when your fuel light comes on when the gauge says your bone empty... there may be a problem with your fuel pump float or the previous owner took out the fuel pump and didn't make sure it's level when he put it back in. could be a simple as that.
