P 1188 Code...

I drove from portland to the coast today... man the weather was just great. on the way to the beach i noticed my car only boosting 5/10 lbs after about half the trip. where it normally boosts 18 holds 16. I have capped the red line already from the cold side pipe to eliminate the overboost code i used to get. I have a stgII wastegate.

On the way home i was cruising about 80mph-90mph at about 5lbs holding pretty steady for a mile or less. the engine light came on, drove it the rest of the way home not boosting anything cause my brain put my foot into limp home mode. i wasnt sure if it was a bad CEL or not. Checked the code got a p 1188. So what is my problem?

Yeah i know what the code actually means, but since i have already cap'd the red line on my cold side pipe i shouldnt be having this problem. Thats why i was asking for info on why im getting it.. but thanks... more input someone? gimme ideas of something to try.

U will still throw the code if u have a aftermarket wastegate and part throttle boost for a certain amount of time....... Nos y dont u helps the boy out instead of beating a dead horse???

because the car will just do it sometimes (mine did on a rare occasion although it hasn't in about two years). Just reset the ECU or get something to clear the code and move along.

MAP sensor still sees the boost on stock system even with the red line clamped so in theory I guess it could still throw the overboost code at ya.
