Default No coolant in the system?

Ok, I just picked up an 03 SRT-4 and everything is running fine. My temps are staying at about 200F or less when Idle and 210 when idling on a hot day. One thing I noticed is when I look at the tank in the back by the firewall, I can't see any coolant at all.

This is my first SRT-4 so I'm a bit new here, but I read the service manual and I should see the fluid in the fill tank. But I don't see any at all. The thing I did notice is my tstat, the cap was loose, apparently I was driving like that. So I tightened it up.

Could my coolant have evaporated some and I'm just low? Or is it just hard to see? When I shine the light back there the bottle looks empty though when I feel the coolant line it's pliable but feels like something is flowing through it.

I know this is a pretty stupid post, but I would like some sage advice.

Thanks guys!

Ok, stupid question #2.... Fill it when it's hot or cold?.. And what do you recommend I use? I was going to use Prestone, but would like to know what everyone is running.

Thanks!

I don't disagree there. There's no where that I know of to buy Mopar coolant on a Sunday (dealerships are closed). Any other thoughts of what other coolant/antifreeze to use?

Most auto parts stores stock Zerex G-05 Coolant, which is compatable with our stock fluid.
Read the directions on how much water to mix in. If the coolant level continues to drop you might have a bad head gasket or coolant hose.
G-05® Antifreeze/ Coolant

I'd been searching on "coolant leaks" and I saw the info on the bad head gasket/tstat. So I will start with the fluid tomorrow and see how that goes. From what I read about the G-05 it's pre-mixed 50/50, looks to be pretty decent stuff, we'll give it a whirl, and thanks!

Update:

I got some zerex G05 and mixed it as directed and filled the system. Running temperature stayed about the same, I think the loose cap on the tstat had the coolant going bye bye... I think I put a bit too much in the overflow tank as when I shake the bottle it comes out the drip pipe. I'll keep an eye on it and update as needed, so far I think I solved the problem.

While I was at it, went ahead and did an oil change with mobile1 and the car purred
