I've noticed and it was mentioned in here that the srt has difficult starting. Compared to the TA I'd kick the key on let the fp prime and click the ingition and it would crank instantly. The srt takes a few seconds 2-3 maybe 4. And no I have never had a sc mustang but my sc impala cranked instantly and it had a roots blower.
I am not trying to change your opinion or anything like that but the majority of people really appreciate the sound of a strong running and sounding V8. I could cruise through town running 30 in 2nd gear and every guy and some girls that were outside would be looking as I'd drive by. Unless you 4.6 (99+) or 5.0 (92-95) was highly modified plus the sc then it doesn't count. I am not saying it wasn't fast. I am talking about 400 rwhp all motor cam loping, exhaust cracking, raw V8 power. My ta was still essentially an old school 350same motor since the 70's with some updates to cooling and ignition, and internals but the block is the same. It was referred to as a 350genII. Compare exhaust from header back lt1/ls1 and the lt1 wins. Most ls1 guys will agree unless they are cocky but the ls1 guys here in town would always say "wish my ls1 sounded like that".
And just curious but how much at the motor hp would an srt-4 have to make to put down 400?
I was thinking there was like a 20 hp at the wheels difference between dodge #'s and whp #'s. Thats like 10% loss. The ta's motor making 400 at the wheels would have to be around 475-500hp at the motor. LS1 fbodies were making 310 gm #'s and laying down 285. Stock Lt1's made 285 gm #'s and laid down an unimpressive 220-235.
as for sound, i'd say my 4.6 counted with o/r x-pipe, stinger cat-back that could be heard over 1/2 mile away and was told every single time i drove it that it was about the most wicked sounding car "they" ever heard..many being modded ls1's f-bodies and c5's, but no it didn't lope at idle - never got around to doing cams on it. but again, most people didn't hear me idle, usually wot. and i think the drivetrain % loss is a lot closer than you think. isn't there a sticky here somewhere that shows when stock srt guys dyno 220-230 stock it really equates to 265-270 at the crank? at a 15% loss, that would put a 400whp neon at something like 470 at the crank. there's so many factors though, it's hard to tell. can't wait to hear the srt with a billy boat catless tb exhaust and over 400whp.

My SRT makes 400whp and i have a maxxfab turbo back with no resonator or cat and it is loud as hell and im running a dump tube so when that wastegate opens up all hell breaks loose.
again your comparing to the ls1. A modular motor. The 4.6 a modular motor. LT1 old school pushrod motor wins in the sound department. I am sure your car sounded good but if I pulled up next to you and revved you would have jaw dropped just like the srt8 charger that got his ass handed to him from a red lite to 90 when i cut off. Just like the 06 Vette who I ran side by side from 65 to 145 and just like the 150 shot bolt on ls1 z28 that I ran from 60 to 120 and only lost by 2 car links. First thing that came out of his mouth was I have never heard or seen an LT1 run like that. I figured I'd run off like you were a honda. He ran high 11's in the 1/4 mile.
I am sure your car sounded good. I like the way the 4.6's sound. I am not hating on your car at all. First fast car I was ever in altough it would seem slow now but was a 99 GT with cai, hpipe and flow masters. I couldn't believe the guy let me drive it and I wanted a fast car from then on. I have had an 95 gt, 92 typhoon, 04 impala ss, the TA, and the SRT. I again am saying the majority of people appreciate the sound of strong V8 power. No sc or tc or juiced power but raw all motor 350 5.7 liter small block power. Not a 281 modular 4.6 liter. Hell the 3.8 ford put out had 232 ci. Gm's 4.3 is 262 ci. Thats all I was trying to say. If you compare a 5.0 to a 4.6 with the same exhaust in my opinion the 5.0 wins due to larger displacement and it's a pushrod. Put the Lt1 upto an old school camaro with a gen 1 350 with similar mods and similar exhaust the old school car has an even better sound. The LT1 isn't the best sounding car I have ever heard. That goes to a local guys 800 hp sc vette which was just wicked but hell it had 800 horses. I am sure if I heard the 1300 hp lt1 impala SQR built in Benbrook well it would take the cake.
Love the SRT, I enjoy it very much, it's loud, and it's pretty quick car.
I am going to finish my 300hp list one day and I'll be happy with a low 13 sec daily driver. yeah it's much slower than the TA, doesn't get the appreciation the TA did but I am not a road scrapper either and the srt is much easier to drive.

opinion. i've had built bolt-on lt1 and ls1 guys tell me my engine/exhaust sounded better than theirs. personal opinion. and are you saying the ls engines are modular? i thought they were just modernized old school pushrod engines, still with just one cam in the center and made much more hp from the factory than the old ironblocks

i don't know for a fact that i would. perhaps.

i never raced a srt8, but i raced the gto that beat a srt8, and i walked that gto.

I raced a modded 05 vette we weren't side by side, i had 3-5 cars on him 5 races out of 5.

my race was a ls1 TA with 150 shot from 30 - 120 and i didn't lose.

and a cadillac cts-v that claimed to be making "well over 400 at the wheels" and i pulled on him pretty easy.

not sure what that was all about, just that my car dyno'd 439 rwhp had 4.10 gears along with the instant kb twin-screw torque and boost...and i'm not really sure why you continue to inform me that my car loses to "5.0" and doesn't count and can't compare to, etc. and if we lined up, i'm not so sure you would have won or that my exhaust would have sounded worse, just that your car would probably sound like a built gm v8 with a lope in its idle and mine would've sounded like a supercharged 4.6 with o/r exhaust.

good to know, glad you enjoy both cars for different reasons. personally i plan on modding the srt4 until it's just as fast or faster than the old 4.6 and do it with the stock motor, and when i get bored with that then i'll do some internals, up the boost and see how that works. peace.
i call it a neon, look at it, its a neon. if people wanna talk shit, then tell them to meet u at the track. and when ur neon beats their camaro, s2000, m3 or watever it may be, they have to live with the fact, they got beat by...well, a neon

Calling it a Neon never has bothered me. I've found that 99% of people don't even know what a SRT-4 is.
I agree, most of the time when someone asks me what I drive, I tell em "a hop'd up neon" I just got tired of explaining the SRT thing.. but this guy.. geeze he's relentless lol
LOL.. this dude at work the other day said the same thing.. Its just a beefed up neon. Then I gazed out side to see the sunfire he drives. Nice...
