My civic was my first manual, i drove stick a few times before, but I bought the car 50 miles from my house, my brother dropped me off and said see ya!... I usual 45 minute car ride took me 2 1/2 hours and kept dumping the clutch in first at redlights like a tool. Then came the Srt took it for a test drive, dealer told me to jump on it and the damn shifter ball came off in my hand and I punched myself in the eye

Hahah, I think my shifter ball is glued..

I learned on a mix between my friends WRX and his brothers Srt.. The wrx was much much harder to drive.. heavy clutch? I don't know.. I was on the highway the next day I got it (way to work). It wasn't really a problem cause of the experience that I had from my friends cars. I've been driving stick everyday for a little over a year now so I don't even really think about it. Its weird now to drive a auto car, especially turning, I try to push the shifter left and down

i actually just learned about three weeks ago, all the cars i have driven have been auto. It was scary at first but once you get in and do it, it will be easier. It's a hands on type of thing, I have always had people try to tell me how to do it, but it wasn't until i actually had to that I learned.

I had been driving automatics for a long time, but when I was stationed in England, I blew up my car... Long story, don't ask... But I had to get a car for my hour and 20 minute commute to the base. All I could find was an MG Metro manual. On the way home, I hit stop and go traffic. No one ever showed me to drive a stick, but I learned REAL quick! That newish clutch lasted me about 600 miles.

Oh, and this shit was funny man.

dude, this is pretty funny. I've had mine pop off before to, while I was racing it. I don't hold the knob when I shift, I just pull or push, so it went flying to the back. Lol. I was like wtf... I still beat the guy. Lol.

I learned how to drive a stick when I was 11 or 12 but then my dad sold his Mazda and I didn't get to pratice anymore. When I got my license I did it with an automatic car and then started learning stick again. I relearned it about a month before I bought my srt-4. It was a little scary driving that car for the first few weeks

same day.
dad and I started out in the morning teaching me how to work a stick shift. that afternoon we went out and did a 20 mile bumper-to-bumper stop-and-go nightmare run up and down rt 9. He said by the end of that I'd have no problems with a stick. He was right.

Unfortunately this technique only works if the person learning actually WANTS to learn. My wife failed miserably.

Evan, I see you're in Houston - no one is EVER ready to drive on Houston freeways - I know, I learned there! It's like a race track where everyone carries a gun

Seriously, just let yourself get comfortable with using the clutch, changing gears, etc
And when you do take that entrance ramp, just keep your wits about you, and be careful. Traffic can slow in a millisecond Stick to the far right lane until you're ready for the middle(s) and left lane

I remember stalling as i was leaving the drive through window at mcdonalds once It just takes practice and you'll get it. the only thing i hate about stop and go traffic on the freeway is all the damn clutching you have to do. im fuckin lazy haha.
