Well i think i know what my tea pot mod is. I never had it till a couple weeks ago and i never got to do a boost leak test. Today after remounting my FMIC and regapping my plugs cause my cars been running like shit i took it for a spin and noticed to whistle but i never listened to my bov afterwards and its not sounding like a jet anymore. I have a HKS by the way. Well after i couple more pulls i hear it letting out air as long as im not under WOT and never makes the jet noise. So im gonna replace it and hopefully thats whats causeing my teapot mod.
Yeah its not the HKS but my lazy ass finally got around to making a boost leak tester and today while i had time at work i pulled the carin and its def a leak. Its coming from The hot side pipe. Im gonna have to jack the carup to find out where it is.
i was about to post a link to that. it really does sound like the amount of air running through the intake at a certain time. there's bound to be a little bit of a whistle, or something.
the video that someone posted on youtube and linked to this thread does sound similar, just not as bad.
Well i posted the first vid and mine was a boost leak. Yes they do whisltle but ive never heard it sound like that. Anyone who has a similar noise i would double check for vac and boost leaks.
first check all your silicone on your intake and hardpipe(where the tubes connect). if all is well, next thing to check is your bov and wga. if the spring is bad, your bov will not shut all the way and here you get your whistle. does it change pitch the higher your rpms? if you bought a bov on ebay for 20 bucks, get the EFF rid of it and invest in turbonetics or hks or something with a brand name on it. if your good there too, spray some bereak cleen around your manifold because a bad manifold gasket is also a likely cause. all of these are easy fixes though. highly doubt its your break booster.
1. make sure intake is air tight EVERYWHERE
2. WGA and BOV are good
3. Manifold gasket(worst case)
No cause if u look it says i have a 50 trim so it wasnt the wg. like i said yes they are suppose to whislte but not like that. Honestly im not sure if it was the boost leak causeing the whistle or the turbo being over worked and sucking in sooo much air because of the leak. Either way mine doesnt make that sound anymore and im glad because it might sound one way on the vid, but when ur in the car u can tell something isnt right.
My teapot mod is a li'l different... I did a boost leak test last weekend and tightened up a medium leak on the clamp right behind the turbo and a major one on the hot side to intercooler pipe clamp... and that's when the teapot mod started.
The thing is, it only does it when the car is warming up, around 10 vac on up. I don't boost while the car is warming up, but there definitely is a VERY high pitched whistle until the car hits 200 degrees, then the sound goes away completely until the next cool down. This only started this weekend AFTER we fixed a major and minor boost leak. I've got a custom intake and FM wga on stock turbo.
