It bothers me too. We've got the thing almost built to do the test. Probably gonna do it tomorrow afternoon. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks guys.

What boggles my mind though is the fact that it was an all of the sudden thing. I turned the car off, swapped turbo's (took about a week due to time constraints), did a leak test, and this happened.

your check valve is either stuck open or was removed when you did the turbo swap. Thats why air is blowing through the valve cover. not a big deal just get a new one.

Mine fills up quickly....(the small AGP one) Is this caused by a faulty PCV?

Do you speak of the PCV Valve? L shape off the cover.... ?

Ive been watching this thread because when I was doing a boost leak test I was getting hte same thing, lots of air moving through the cover.

Hah! Sorry for the delay, work started beating me up this week.

So we did the leak down test, we home built our unit using exact specs to the store-bought ones.

The leak-down efficiency were in the 90's% on all four cylinders. Yes we had a little bit of air seeping out of the valve cover during each cylinder test, but it wasn't a rush of air like when we did a boost leak test. I did not hear any air-noise coming from the exhaust or intake or valvestem seals so those seem good.

Check valves are good, i tested the PTP one i have and it works fine, the valve cover one does let a little air pass when its closed, but its miniscule so w/e. I'll buy a new one eventually.

The motors free air system is working properly. During idle there is suction coming from the breather on the valve cover side, and when i disconnect the pcv system from the intake manifold, i get a very light amount of positive pressure coming out of the breather. But that would just be the pistons themselves moving air around in the crank case correct?

Now i have not touched the stock S3 wastegate since i put it on the car, i know it's adjustable. Perhaps it may just be set low and thats why i'm not getting to the low 20's in pressure like a normal S3? Either way my AGP S3 wastegate came in today.

In all honesty i'm not too concerned about the car at this point. I mean all the tests we are doing are coming out positive, the car drives almost perfect except for the little blip in the idle... almost sounds like an extremely mild cam. Could be the fuel injectors need cleaning, they are off of another car so who knows .

Any thoughts or inputs? I really appretiate you guys checking in on this for me.

::edit::

My CC does not fill up quickly at all. Its rate has been the same for 3 years. Maybe a month or 2 for it to get time to drain?

Couple of thoughts here. First off when you do a boost leak check who knows where your pistons and valves are sitting at the time of the test. They probably won't be sitting in the same place as the last time you did the test. So what can happen is a cylinder can be on its intake stroke with the intake valve open and exhaust valve closed. The engine is cold so the piston ring gaps are opened up due to lack of expansion. So air goes right into the intake valve and has no place to go but through the wide piston ring gaps. Then once the air is past the rings and in the crankcase the air goes up to the valve cover.

So I would not worry about the air coming up. Its going to happen, especially if the pistons/valves are oriented in a fashion where the air goes into the cylinder and has no other place to go but past the rings and into the crankcase.

^^^ Agree, air is going to leak. No way around it. What bothered me was that it all of the sudden started to leak more after my S3 install, and this was before i even started romping on the car. Thats what worried me. But now that i did all the tests that i could without pulling the head to physically look at each piston, and that each test came out with the engine in the OK, i'm not worried. Whatever happens happens at this point.
