Unhappy flying to Hartford to pick up my SRT4 today hopefully... BUT... darn MLK holiday :(

so tonight I fly out to hartford, CT to potentially pick up my 04 SRT4...

Well, my initial intention was to just take my plates with me (figured I'd transfer them anyway as soon as I got back so no big deal)

...well, someone mentioned to me how I probably can't take a license plate on as carry on with the new 9/11 flight carrry on rules... ARG! I never even thought about the idea of a license plate being used as a weapon but I guess it makes sense with the sharp edges they have and are metal (even though it's aluminum)

...so sure enough, i called Southwest and NOPE.. not allowed as carry on.. well, I don't want to check anything (only have 1 backpack) Plus this way It should go faster through the airport, etc. (learned many interesting rules about what you can and can't take on as carry on now... interesting stuff)

So... I tried to see if I could get a 'temporary' from my DMV.. NOPE.. no plate without title here in Illinois..

..then I called CT DMV and they have this thing called 'in transit' temporary good for 7 days... GREAT! That would work perfect!

..BUT guess what... even though the local DMV was an easy exit off the I84 on the way home, and is usually open on Saturday's from 8am until 1pm, it will NOT be open tomorrow (closed on Saturday in honor of Monday Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday) ARG! so this rather nasty lady (her name was Shenequa) tells me that I can't leave the state and drive on any public road with the car until Tuesday when they open up again at 8am.. Um, yeah, right.. I'm not sticking around just for that... Then she told me I better change my flight then to get there this morning before 12:30 because they are closing early due to the holiday.... ...and NO I can't do this over the phone...

What a total joke!

...meanwhile.. the Illinois DMV won't allow me to do a transfer until I show up with title in hand...

I refuse to miss 2 or 3 days of work so this will be an interesting drive home..

Hopefully whatever police pull me over will be reasonable when I show them the Saturday dated bill-of-sale, title, my insurance and Dr. License.... otherwise I could get a ticket in every state I am driving through and this could be an expensive drive home...

....all assuming the car is as expected and I'm taking it home instead of flying back home that is....

Wish me luck guys..

I will NOT have my pc with me so I won't be able to respond ONLINE until after I get back as an FYI

actually did do that with my front plate to the seller yesterday (thank goodness for fedex).. but it's still not technically going to be able to be transfered until tuesday! ...so I'll probably still get pulled over when a cop puts it in the system and sees the plate doesn't match the car registration yet.. DOH!

like I said, I just hope cops are reasonable and understanding about this situation and the hours of the DMV with the holiday, etc.

Just tell your DMV you need temp plates for a car you are buying in your state, than overnight them to CT maybe?

I tried that.. they told me I have to get 'in transit' temporaries in the state I bought the car in.. (enter the closed saturday problem in CT I talked about above)

..my DMV won't even issue me a temporary without title in hand...

it's a catch-22 basicly..

and the hours of DMV suck this weekend with the monday holiday!

I say screw it and drive the car. If your pulled over then just explain to them the situation. If you do get a ticket and have to go to court it will most likely be dropped anyway. Its not like you have stolen the car and the car wont be reported stolen so your safe. Just drive it and dont worry.

I don't know about your state but with a bill of sale here in AR you have 30 days to tag any new/used car... I would check and see if they have something sim. to that there. makes no sense.... If I by on saturday night i can't tag until monday anyway.

um yeah.. I'm not going to drive back to some other state just to go to court (I'd waste more time away from making money at work and gasoline expenses)

but I just heard of an 'unwritten' law about having 24 hours to transport home from where ever and that will work for me just fine!!!

Dude just get in the car and drive it home with your paperwork in hand. you are making this more complex than it needs to be. I live in CA our DMV is way fucked up. I buy cars out of state all the time i just go in show the title and get the new paperwork and plates no problem so quit being a tard about it.
