Default Belt ques...

Well i got up this morning an started my car an my belt wouldnt stop squeaking so i figure ill jus pick up sum belt conditionor no biggie. So i spray it down an it stops but only for as long as i am sprayin it then begins squeakin again. Could this mean i need a new belt? Also how many belts do our cars have? Any info appreciated cuz its very annoying.

DO NOT USE BELT SPRAY! It's only a temporary fix and will get sticky crap all over your engine bay. it could be squeking for a number of reasons. There could be power steering fluid, coolant, or oil on it; your tensioner might be due for replacement; or the belt is just done. if you are going to spray anything on it try brake cleaner. Then you can use a wire brush to clean it. How many miles on the car?

There are 2 belts, one for the accessories, one for the alternator. If its squeaking, just try changing the belt first, its easy and cheap (under 15min/$20). I got coolant on my belt by accident and almost swapped out the P/S pump because that's where I thought the squeak was coming from.

Yea if your belt wasn't bad its bad now because you sprayed that crap on it, it will eat the belt and make it weak. Try atv the black one, trust me it will work. Put that on there till you change the belt.

change the belt and see if it stops. if it doesnt then check the ac condensor bolts that mount it to the motor and make sure they arent loose. if they are you wont be able to keep tension in the belt and it will sqeak

i made a thread about this the other day. I had the same issues, esp. after a car wash. I got it changed under warranty earlier today, it was the surpintaine (sp?) belt. It is $150 parts and labour if it's not under warranty.

edit- mine has 14K and the more gas the more it'll whine, you need a new belt forsure.

I'm definatly not stock. I had one dealer tell me it's not warrantied, went to another dealer and they did it no questions asked. No matter what your mods are, it's not gonna make the belt whine...
