Axle problems?

What are the tell tell signs that axle problems may be looming?

I autocross and think I may have probs in the near future.

in 1st gear just tapping the gas I hear a clunk/knock, possible axle play/spline wear?

Any info is appreciated.

I Have the same thing, My rubber boot got punctured and all the grease came out of that little hole and after awhille I got a clunk/knocking noise from the CV axle which means that all the grease is gone and that those metal parts inside the boot got shot from not having any lubercation to protect them.
I have a brand new axle sitting in the living room I just have to have the time and tools to put it on.

Yep, wobble under acceleration. you should hear knocking and clunking under hard driving. If it gets real bad then you will even hear a metal to metal grinding noise at slow speeds. I bought a Daytona Shelby Z a while back and the axles were so bad they literally fell into two pieces when I took them out. Crawl underneath of it and look at the rubber boots on your axles. Maybe you can see how bad it is, and get an idea of how much longer until they will need to be changed.
