Default After a 2, 3, 2 shift... boom goes motor

Hah, well it has finally happened, my motor has gone.

It all happened while driving home from work as I was getting on the Knoxville interstate heading toward Sevierville. Right as I was merging onto the interstate a seen a red 03/04 Cobra that I was about to merge with. He instantly snapped his head over, slowed down and gave me the "I'm going to leave you in the dust" look. We rolled side by side for a few seconds at about 50, then he gave it a little gas pretty much like saying "Go, i'll catch you NP" so I downshifted to 2nd and took off (spin spin spin) and immediately he got on it. I stayed in 2nd for a second or two and hammered 3rd and for that entire gear we were side by side... that is until I went to slam fourth but so happened to go into 2nd.. Motor reved to about 9.5k RPM's for a half second then I put it in 5th and about shat myself.

Short story long... I now have a car that is making a weird grinding noise at part throttle. When its sitting at idle it idles perfect. The car isnt smoking and makes no abnormal ticking or rattling noise at idle... it is only when I give it about 10-20% throttle and bring it up a few hundred RPM's. The grinding noise is coming somewhere in the bottom part of the head / top part of the block.
Also, when I push in the clutch slowly there is a hard vibration in the petal.

Anyways... anyone know a good place to get aftermarket parts? If it is the motor, I am going to go ahead and get stronger bottom end parts (600+ hp capable). If it is the tranny, I have a good person in town that can build it very well.
I have all the parts at my house to rebuild the head: BC-S3 cams, BC springs/retainer, ARP headstuds, and cam gears so it gives me an excuse to put them in

Well that is exactly what mine is doing... around 2000-2500rpm's reving up at idle it grinds/ticks. What was wrong with yours ?

Oh, and I was just barely in front (about a half car) because I jumped on him after he goosed it a little. As soon as I accidentally went into 2nd he went flying by me. Its funny too because we got off at the same exit and he rolled down the window and said.. "Damn! That little car moves!!" and I said "Did you hear me go into a wrong gear" ... "Yeah, that didnt sound good at all"

Oh well... I am going to have it towed down to Mark at Fastec (for all of you that know who him) and see if he can figure it out.

I'll keep you updated

needed a new flexplate, pressure plate, clutch and i think more shit.

i think the dealer reused the TOB tho cause its been making noise since the rebuild 2 years ago lol

but its probably the tranny. and hope the over rev didnt blow up the motor. but since theres no smoke or anything u might be good to go

Yeah, no smoke. The way that the car is driving im thinking its the tranny. Like I said,... when I push in the clutch slowly... there is a hard vibration in the petal. Only that that would cause that is something in the tranny/clutch area.

As for the motor... I really think its ok. If I did something like slap a piston into a valve from over reving then I would know it. Hole or dent in piston = smoke and running like shit. On the way home a few days ago, I noticed it was making that grinding noise, so like any normal person would do, I dropped it in third from about a 60 roll and boosted it all the way to 24psi to see if it would blow.... nope... no smoke or anything, pulled very hard too. Im thinking if it was motor it would of went ahead and blown or got a lot worse.

About 80% sure its tranny related...

I'll do a compression check in a little bit to see if its the motor or not

i did that after i had my car for like a year or so. Mine had a ticking noise and a big loss in power. It idle fine and drove fine, just ticked like a exhaust leak, it didnt grind. When i took it to the dealer and it turned out to be a wrist pin knock. They warrenty it and gave me a new block in a crate. Good thing i had only 30k on it.

Wow funny that I came across this. I was runnin an m3 in my stock 04, 3 nights ago, and when I was at the top of third around 90mph I went for 4th but hit 2nd! the car did a nose dive. But yeh , it idles fine and doesen't smoke, but when it's reved up it sounds raspy, and it's getting worse...I also have the mad dog sts.
