DTEC is just like the SAFC in that it interrupts the MAP signal to the PCM. You can tune fuel out at WOT with it, and because you are changing the MAP signal, you effectively adjust the timing as well. With a return line you have nearly endless adjustment of the fuel system, and limited adjustment of timing because of that. You do not actually adjust the timing, it is a by-product of the fuel tuning. DTEC, when installed CORRECTLY, will NOT drain the battery. If you are a first time tuner and are buying used, DTEC IMO is he best thing out there for the 150 you're gonna pay. Emanage and AEM FIC are in the 250-300 range used, and if you're gonna pay that, there is absolutely no reason not to get DSP. DSP is really the best tuning solution around other than an EMS, and will make more power than any piggyback. But I wouldn't necessarily recommend one over the other unless you were buying new, in which case buy the DSP. DTEC is a great tuner, and has been proven very effective here over the last 5 years. Don't believe everything you hear, there is a lot of power to be made with a piggyback, but there is more to be found with DSP, but the DSP has options for adjustment that if not done correctly or smartly, will really fuck up your car. Raising the redline, for example, like some of these idiots do. 7000 rpm on a stock head and turbo will BLOW UP YOUR MOTOR eventually. Hope this helps at all.
