With the car starting and then shutting off after two seconds I have a good idea. Have you recently had a key made or anything for your car. Chrystlers anti-theft system they put in srt-4's only not in any other neon basically reads resistance from the key so it knows its you trying to start the car. Sounds like that is the problem. Next time you start is see if your security light flashes, the red light above the fuel gauge.
If you had a key made at a hardware store or something wont work. You have to get a chipped key.
If not your anti-theft system might be bad.
Also there are wires going from your key cylinder to the theft system. If they are grounded out of severed that could be your problem but I guarantee thats your issue
