Most likely. Either way, whether you pull the resistor completely or replace with a smaller one, you're gonna kill 'em off a lot quicker. Then to replace them I think you need to open the lamps up anyways

Personally, I would maybe think about opening them up and adding a higher wattage set of LEDs. Those lamps bake apart really easily and it would cost a lot less than going the CCF route. Maybe John has a better (easier)solution?
