Get a scangauge and look at knock and figure out how much octane it takes to hold HOM without knock. I don't see why people are happy to just hold HOM when god knows how much knock they have, and would pull a lot harder if they didn't have any knock retard. That's my opinion, plus it is going to be different for different cars on different days, the octane requirement that is, so you can't just say you need xx octane for every stage 2.
Not to mention 95 octane may be more or less octane at WOT than another gas at 95 octane if they are both rated r+m/2. Another reason to get a scangauge and not just go with whatever octane people tell you.
