Just remember the cost of living inside charlotte is going to suck ass.
If I where you look on the outsides of charlotte and into Fort Mill area of South Carolina.
I am in Kings Mountain, NC. It takes me 30 minutes to the air port. That might be a bit far for you, but between here and Charlotte there is Gastonia, McAdenville (sp?), Lowell, etc. Nice little communities outside Charlotte. Some of the real estate there is starting to feel the push of charlotte's economy and rising prices, but some has not. I love it here. I moved here from New Jersey and will be here for a long time.
