A little VW trivia
The Volkswagen Auto Group consists of Volkswagen, Audi AG (Audi , AL S.p.a and Quattro), SEAT, SA , Škoda Auto , Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. (part of Audi AG), Bentley Motors Limited, and Bugatti Automobile SAS aswell as Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles along with a controlling stake (68.9%) in Scania AB and a 29.9% stake in MAN AG. Inturn Porsche AG has a 51% stake in VW but formally announced in a press statement that it did not intend to take over Volkswagen, setting its offer price at the lowest possible legal value, but intended the move to avoid a competitor taking a large stake, or to stop hedge funds dismantling VW, which is Porsche's most important partner. For those who dont know the lineage of the Volkswagen Phaeton, it rides on a variation of VW Auto Group's D platform. The D platform is the company's large vehicle platform that is used for luxury automobiles by the Volkswagen, Audi and Bentley brands. The D platform has several variations/varaints since 1988 to present, the current A8/S8 rides on the D2 platform while the Volkswagen Phaeton , Bentley Continental GT and Bentley Continental Flying Spur ride on the D3 platform share some components with the D2 platform, but employ steel bodyshell construction.
