The Phaeton is actually a platform twin to the Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur; I visited the Dresden factory in 2006 and watched them make the Phaeton and Spur side-by-side. I tried to help, citing my experience sweeping floors at the Honda plant, but they weren't interested.
I have a Bentley "piano black" steering wheel and CGT paddle shifters in my Phaeton; a quick VAG-COM recode and they worked just fine. You can even swap the Bentley dashboard in, although that takes more than an hour or two!
For the record, I do *not* race the Phaetons; I run them on open lapping days and have also run my black Phaeton in SCCA F Stock autocross, where it has yet to finish dead last
It's at this point that I kind of want to use that little jester fellow. It looks cool when that WTF kid does it, like there's a joke on which I am not in. So I'm going to try using it below:
