I wouldn't go as far as to say the tach adapter is going bad...as long as it's reading the correct rpms on the screen then it works. It sounds like you may have your safc hooked up to your TPS (throttle position sensor) instead of your map sensor. The map sensor is the one that goes into your intake manifold, fyi. If you set the controller to zero and it flooded, then that's normal. You need to start taking away fuel until you get your desired air/fuel ratio. It's possible to add fuel with the safc's but to be honest there's no point and 90% of the time you'll end up throwing a CEL if you don't have the proper calculations and whatnot. Just keep pulling fuel and see if you get any changes.
