I took my balance shafts out when I disassembled the engine. The chain I cut with a set of bolt cutters, took 3 seconds. The 4 bolts torqued to 40ft\lbs of torque that hold the balance shafts & bedplate together. There's 20 total bolts that hold the bedplate to the block, + the 4 for the BS. The BS out, there should only be 4 shorter bolts, with a special fitting to block the oil passage feeding the BS assembly. Then you'll need some sort of windage tray to keep oil under control. I personally cut the chain, and just plan on reinstalling the BS. No chain, windage not a problem, and no oil control problems. With all the benefits.

But if you got something better on the table get on it SON!!! Me about to go off deepend.
