Hey man, the shorter threaded side didn't allow the studs to grave enough threads in the pan IMO. However no matter how you install the studs, the nuts are on the dangerous side of bottoming out on the shank of the studs. That being said, its common practice that nuts of this design are usually installed with a washer of some sort. The washer also acts a spacer to ensure the nuts actually clamp down and not bottom out.
