there are a lot of options really...
one simple way using the D80 - read up on Bracketing... it has a built in function and is pretty easy to use (I'll leave the manual reading to you... but)
as for PSE 6... hmmm... does it have it built in? CS3 has it under FILE / AUTOMATE / MERGE TO HDR...
sorry, not sure if PSE6 has it though... (really helpful I've been huh?)
a quick search on tutorials for dynamic range increase might be helpful too
