Silverdale — A local good samaritan who stopped to help what appeared to be a stranded motorist is speaking out about the crime that left him without his truck and put a snag in his wedding plans.
Marine Corporal Jared Jordan was on his way to work early Thursday morning to Naval Station Bangor when he saw what appeared to be a couple with a broken down car off Highway three in Silverdale.
He stopped to help, but while he was looking under the hood of the couple's car he heard a sound that made his heart sink. The man was driving away in his truck and the woman in the car almost ran him over as she made a getaway.
To make matters worse, the battery in Corporal Jordan's cell phone was dead, so he had to run about two miles to the nearest gas station to call police, at three thirty in the morning.
About nine hours later a friend spotted Jordan's truck ditched on the side of a road it was dented in several spots and missing several things - including his military uniforms worth about a thousand bucks. But it's what was in a tiny shopping bag that left him heart broken.
The crooks made off with the wedding ring he was about to give to his fiancee.
But Jordan says the wedding will go on. They're getting married on November 21st.
And he says he'll still help stuck drivers, but next time will be a little more cautious and make sure he takes his keys with him.
