Whatever you do with 3M double sided tape, DONT use heat, and DONT use a rubber wheel. They make it 100x worse. Just use your thumb or forefinger and push the tape. It rolls up into a ball and comes right off. For the leftover residue, use some wax, tar, grease remover (professional grade like PPG's DX330 or Dupont's Final Klean).
You could also use a plastic razor blade to push the tape along, and spare your thumb and forefinger the pain, but I've found using a blade takes quite awhile longer.
