I wouldn't say limiting nature (although a lot of second gen owners may disagree ) but it does decide on a torque goal depending on how much you request with your right foot, what load the car is under, and can then reduce that for unfavorable factors. I'd hope if there was heavy knock or if the injectors were max'd out or the intercooler was super heat soaked and raising the chance you'd see detonation that it would be smart enough to try to compensate for that. Might suck for performance but be safer for the car and the emission systems. At least now you can change it if you don't like it and tailor it so that it matches your modifications and doesn't have to limit torque if the car is running correctly for those mods.
