Yeah, I think it will work fine. Here's a few questions to ask.
1. Does he have a TPS sensor? Pretty likely.
2. Can he kill the coil from the positive side? Also pretty likely.
3. Does he have a clutch switch? This one may not be trivial, especially if the car doesn't have cruise control. If not, he'll need to add a clutch switch.
