it doesnt PUSH 1.5 amps to the solenoid, its just capable of supplying that much. the solenoid probably takes significantly less than that, I wouldn't worry about it.
Autometer makes an IAT gauge with two inputs (hot side/cold side anyone?)
as far as an oil gauge, maybe get one with an electronic sender that could take care of leaks.
