MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Sunday's DirecTV 500 at Martinsville Speedway didn't finish like it started and that was OK for Scott Riggs, who finished 10th – the top Dodge driver and best of the three Evernham Motorsports teams.
Teammates Jeremy Mayfield and Kasey Kahne, who hadn't finished lower than 11th in the season's first five races, both ran well in the early-going but both experienced engine problems and didn't finish the race.
Mayfield was 26th and Kahne 35th.
"We had a pretty decent car. We just needed track position," said Riggs, who moved to 30th in owner points and is assured a spot in the field next week at Texas.
"The car was really sliding the nose early in the race, but we adjusted on it and got it freed up. Track position was just really key today."
Said Kahne: "We were having a lot of fun out there. It just wasn't our day. We'll regroup and bounce back next week at Texas." Kahne is fourth in points, 101 behind leader Jimmie Johnson.
