Guy's I'd like to share my experience with these pesty P0846, P0871 and P0888 codes. I cleared the P0846, P0871 and P0888 with my AutoTap scan tool. The P0846 and P0871 never came back, but the P0888 would always come back.
Well, the car was down for about 10 days, battery removed for a new clutch and tranny. When I got it back, the P0888 was gone and has never appeared again. I asked my Tech if he did something to remove it and he said no, just that the battery was disconnected for that period of time. Figure that one out.
