Yes. The result is the same. Your scan tool will report 0 codes if you only have automatic transmission failures. If you have other codes, all bets are off. All error codes will be reported.

But, the device will indicate this with a Flashing LED and give you the opportunity to try and clear them with the button. If they come back, you've got a real problem and you need to fix it.
