HOW-TO: Removal of Balance Shaft Chain for 10hp
Here you go. If you see an error let me know and I'll edit. This outta be a sticky.
- remove passenger tire
- remove inner fender plastic
- remove the large bolt from the lower mm and swing mm down outta the
way
- remove air intake and battery
- loosen the clamp on the intercooler pipe at the turbo
- remove the 2 bolts oil cooler mount, don't take off hoses there is coolant
in the lines. Take shim gasket off and put away for safe keeping
- remove the 2 bolts holding the intercooler hard pipe on the motor
- remove the hard intercooler pipe after loosening the clamp on the soft
intercooler hose
- remove the brackets that hold the tranny to the block on the driver side
of the pan, there are several layers of fasterers and brackets both on the
side and bottom. untill all the 10mm oil pan bolts are exposed
- remove the oil pan bolts
- take off pan and see the bal assy right there.
- undo the 4 bolts that hold on the square passenger side access plate and
take of the plate. You will see the chain.
- Use a dremel or other to file down one of the pins on the chain.
- Use a screwdriver to pry apart the link and pull apart.
- Rotate the chain around the nylon gears to remove.
- Voila!
- I reused the oil pan gasket. Be sure to wipe down all the mating surfaces.
- Reverse the order to reassemble.
- You just made free power! The best of all!
