I have the exact same situation. I bought brand new 17X7's and took them to the shop to have the stock tires mounted and balanced, because they only had 2,000 miles on them. Now when I hit around 80 my steering wheel shakes also. I drive on the autobahn everday to get to work so I get to those speeds everday.

I talked to the mechanic at the shop and he said they had to pull off those little rings or the wheels wouldnt fit. They also put the hubcentric rings on and wheel weights since they balanced the wheels.

It is weird because everthing is smooth until about 80.
